Lola's Wednesday Playlist 11/16: Moody Music
Well, we've arrived at the holiday season, which I happen to be thrilled about, but I do have a tendency to get a little bit nostalgic and pensive as it gets closer to winter (AKA "the rainy season" in LA) - which means my music taste gets moodier and moodier. That is of course, until it gets Christmasier and Christmasier. But until then, here is this Wednesday's (not-so) weeky playlist: the moody edition.
1.) Florence and the Machine - Shake it Out
Obviously any new Florence and the Machine belongs on this list.
2.) Heartbeat Hotel - Windowsill
I was actually staying in a hotel room with Kreesha Turner, a fabulous singer from Canada, when I first heard this song. It was early in the morning and she put on her moody music playlist to get ready to, and, just after a different Florence song played, this one came on and I was entranced. I immediately demanded the name of this still-fairly-unknown Canadian band.
3.) Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats
Beautiful cover of The Knife's song.
4.) The National - Slow Show
This one still makes me believe in love every time I hear it.
5.) Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill
I don't know if I'm capable of getting sick of Running Up That Hill. It always makes me feel like I'm living in some strange, surreal other world, in the best way possible.
6.) Blink 182 - I Miss You
Shut up. It's so sweet.
7.) Little Dragon - Twice
This song makes everything feel heavy and beautiful and tragic.
8.) Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
This is a given, right?
9.) The Naked and Famous - Young Blood
I've been hearing The Naked and Famous on the radio for months now and have loved the songs every time, but I just discovered who they were, well, today. Love.
10.) Moby - Porcelain
Oh, the nostalgia. I was very young when this song came out, and every time it came on I'd close my eyes and it felt like I was being transported to a desert island ocean, all alone, in the middle of the night. (This might have something to do with the fact that Cast Away came out that same year, but what do I know.)
